Alla Prima Portrait
weekend workshop
“Alla Prima” or Italian for “At the First” is a direct and expressive painting style where a painting is completed all in one session. In this class we will learn how to paint alla prima portraits from live models in oil. We will begin by blocking in the large planes and shapes of the face, then progress to color with an emphasis on mixing fresh skin tones. Beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of painting alla prima portraits, and more advanced artists will deepen and refine their understanding of core concepts. Instructor will demonstrate each morning followed by guided painting time.
